The tool should extend the hand
A good machine does not do the work for the artist, but a poor tool forces you to fight your technique. I look beyond the name and focus on how predictably a machine behaves in the work I actually do.
01. Stroke and purpose
Lines, soft shading and solid packing need different hit characteristics. Versatility is useful, but understanding your own way of working matters more.
02. Balance
Weight and centre of gravity become especially noticeable during long sessions. A machine should remain stable when the hand is already tired.
Equipment should remove unnecessary thoughts and leave only the work.
03. Service and consumables
Before buying, check cartridge and battery compatibility and whether service is available. These boring details become important at exactly the wrong moment.
